Malta and Gozo are a popular destination for the family. Full of family friendly beaches, rich history and educational fun activities, the islands are a top choice for a family trip. Malta is a safe country with a low crime rate. The allure of a warm and sunny weather combined with a relaxing ambiance is sure to offer an experience for the whole family who want to spend quality time together. The locals are very friendly people and always ready to help especially the tourists. Being small in size, driving distances are quite short and one can travel from one place to the other in a short amount of time. Malta is still relatively cheap compared to many European countries and quite affordable. Most locals speak fluent English and one can find many others who speak other languages as well especially amongst the younger generation. It is suggested to book a boat trip around the islands for a whole day of family fun. It is recommended to rent a car.
It is difficult to find an area in Malta or Gozo which can be considered unsafe for kids. Our pick in Malta would be Mellieha which is a quieter and more relaxing area compared to other popular resorts such as Bugibba , St.Julians or Sliema. The latter are however still very family friendly locations and full of family friendly hotels and restaurants. Mellieha is full of sandy beaches equipped with deck-chairs and water sports activities for the whole family. Ghadira bay in Mellieha is one such beach and a guarantee of fun for the children enthusiastic to build their sand castles. Other beaches nearby are Ghajn tuffieha and Golden bay, both situated in the locality of Mellieha. These three beaches remain shallow for a good distance out. Mellieha is close to the harbour which takes you to Gozo. Apart from beaches the islands offer a number of parks, gardens and other reacreation facilities not to be missed.
Malta's sister island is slower-paced and surrounded by twinkling pristine waters plus natural unspoiled bays offering swimming opportunities in clean waters. Gozo is certainly an ideal spot for quality family time. Gozo is a guarantee of relaxation and peace of mind. The main sandy beach in Gozo, Ramla Bay, is one of the most beautiful of the whole islands and it is something that the whole family will love. Surrounded by lovely scenery and red coloured sand makes this beach a paradise. The sea remains shallow for a good distance and thus very safe for the kids.
Malta guarantees various unforgettable moments that can be enjoyed with the children in a safe and beautiful setting, from theme parks to swimming with the dolphins. Here a few suggestions:
The Marina Park in situated in Bahar ic-Caghaq to the centre-north of Malta. Watch Sea lions, parrots, Iguanas shows and more ! You can also swim with the dolphins for an experience you will never forget. There is educational fun for all the family not just the kids.
The Playmobile fun park is great for the kids. The park includes internal and external play areas, a cafeteria and a shop. Take a tour of the factory and capture the children's imagination with lifesize figures of these popular toys. This is mainly a big playmobil store.
Popeye Village is probably the best theme park in Malta. It was originally constructed for the film set 'Popeye' in 1980 starring Robin Williams and turned into an entertainment fun park for the whole family. Meet Popeye and his wife Olive in this lovely small colourful village which includes also a Santa's toy town and Anchor Bay in the north-west corner of Malta. In 2014, Popeye Village was voted one of the top 10 most beautiful villages in the world.
The Malta National Acquarium is located in Qawra. It features over 120 species of fish – varying from longhorn cowfish to sharks over 26 display tanks. The complex also includes a restaurant, a playground and Café del Mar establishment with a pool which reaches out to the Mediterranean Sea.
